Output bitrate is not source quality
Bitrate describes how much data the output uses per second. If the source audio was already compressed at a lower effective quality, exporting it as 320 kbps produces a larger file but cannot reconstruct discarded information.
Choose bitrate for the job
Speech, lectures, and interviews often remain clear at modest bitrates. Music and detailed sound benefit more from a higher-quality source and a less aggressive conversion.
- 128 kbps: compact speech and casual listening
- 192–256 kbps: practical general audio
- 320 kbps: minimizes additional MP3 loss when the source supports it
Keep codec in mind
M4A or Opus can be more efficient than MP3 at similar perceived quality. MP3 remains useful when compatibility across older players and editing tools matters most.
