How to archive your own video library without creating a mess
Build a responsible archive of your own uploads with stable filenames, source links, quality choices, checksums, and backups.
Keep source context beside the file
A video filename alone rarely preserves enough context. Keep the original URL, title, creator or channel, download date, chosen quality, and licensing notes in a small index.
Use a predictable folder and filename pattern
A useful pattern is year/platform/creator followed by a date and short title. Avoid characters that break across operating systems, and do not depend on a platform ID as the only human-readable label.
Back up the archive, not only the index
Use at least two storage locations for important original work. Periodically test that files open and compare checksums when moving large archives between disks.
